Work on Airport Road set to begin - al.com

Work on Airport Road set to begin - al.com: "FOLEY — After three years of waiting and planning, work has begun on a $1.6 million project to connect the industrial area near the city airport with Baldwin County 24, area officials said.

The project will extend Airport Road north for about a half-mile. The construction schedule calls for the work to be complete in eight months, said Randy Kurtts, assistant city engineer.

The project will allow trucks and employees going to the Goodrich Aerospace plant to reach the site without cutting through neighborhoods along Fern Avenue, Mayor John Koniar said. The mayor said city officials received a state grant for the project in 2007, but complications with the design, particularly environmental questions about a bridge over the Magnolia River, delayed the start."
