Rescued manatee heading to Florida - al.com

Rescued manatee heading to Florida - al.com: "The first manatee ever captured in Alabama is safely out of Mobile Bay and headed for the warmer waters of central Florida, according to a satellite tag affixed to her tail.

Moving about 15 miles a day, the animal scientists named Bama has traveled 250 miles in the last two weeks, mostly in the Intracoastal Waterway.

That's good news, because water temperatures in the bay have been dropping steadily. Last year, two manatees died in Mobile Bay. Scientists believe both waited too long to head south and died of cold-induced stress."
