With an eye toward savings Gulf Shores to switch to automated pay-to-park system at public beach | Breaking News from the Press-Register - al.com: "GULF SHORES, Ala. -- City officials said they've selected a California company to install parking pay stations at the public beach.
In doing so City Planner Andy Bauer estimated that taxpayers will save nearly $700,000 over the first five years that the machines replace the parking attendants City Hall hires on contract each summer.
A committee of municipal employees has studied the possibility of installing an automated parking system at the public beach since spring. On Monday Bauer, who headed that group, said that they have decided to do business with VenTek International, representatives of which were scheduled to visit Gulf Shores this week and demonstrate how the system works. An onsite demonstration of the system is scheduled for next month."
