Gulf State Park fishing pier to fully reopen this week - al.com

Gulf State Park fishing pier to fully reopen this week - al.com: "Repairs to the Gulf State Park fishing pier in Gulf Shores, which was damaged in Tropical Storm Ida, are nearly complete, and the entire structure is scheduled to reopen by 5 p.m. Wednesday.

At 1,540 feet long, the pier is the Gulf of Mexico's longest. Although storms caused damage and delays during its construction, Ida was its first test since opening in July.

Though it stands some 20 feet above the water, Ida's waves reached the pier's deck and blew out more than 100 5-by-5-foot panels in addition to damaging some water and power lines, a few lights and some handrails."
