Part of Gulf State Park Pier reopens following damage by Tropical Storm Ida | Breaking News from the Press-Register - al.com: "A portion of the Gulf State Park Pier reopened Friday morning, and a park official said its entire 1,540-foot length should be ready for fishing on or before Thanksgiving weekend.
The new pier, which stands 20 feet above the water, was damaged when Tropical Storm Ida battered it Monday night into Tuesday morning.
Assistant Park Superintendent Trey Myers said that a state engineer inspected the sections of pilings above the waterline on Thursday and found no obvious signs of damage. Myers said there was no indication that the pilings had shifted under the force of the waves."
