Gulf Shores backs off EMC building - al.com: "GULF SHORES — City officials have ended their efforts to acquire a former Baldwin EMC facility and turn it into a new primary fire station, Mayor Robert Craft said this week.

Instead, Craft said, city officials are planning to repair the existing Fire Station No. 1 next to City Hall and build a small firehouse on municipal property near Jack Edwards Airport.

'It's over and done,' Craft said Monday of the city's months-long efforts to buy the EMC's vacant West First Street facility for $1.5 million. 'It turned out it wasn't a good deal for either of us.'"
