FDA regulators, lawmakers to continue oyster talks - al.com: "WASHINGTON — Federal regulators and Gulf Coast lawmakers said they'll keep talking following a closed-door meeting Tuesday over a bitterly contested plan to reduce the threat posed by the oyster-borne bacteria Vibrio vulnificus.

'I think the public health goal is still important, but what we're discussing is a reasonable way to accomplish it,' Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, principal deputy commissioner at the Food and Drug Administration, said afterward.

Sharfstein was one of four FDA officials at the 50-minute morning sit-down in a U.S. Capitol conference room. Approximately two dozen Gulf Coast lawmakers and staffers also attended."
