October, 10, 2009 - Orange Beach, AL - The first annual scarecrow building contest will take place at the Orange Beach Art Center Thursday October 22 4- pm. The Art Center is providing the pumpkin, hay, frame and paints participants provide the clothing and accessories. This will be a great event for families, friends, groups and it is free of charge (donations are appreciated). The only requirement is that you RSVP by Oct 16th to reserve your scarecrow building kit. Hot Dogs, chips and drink will be served for $3.
The scarecrows will be on display at the Art Center for one week at which time families may take their creation home to become part of their Halloween decorations.
That's not all the fun. Immediately following the scarecrow contest Hot Glass/Cold Drinks Spooky Style begins. The Hot Shop artists have created some wonderful glass pumpkins (pumpkies as they say in Seattle) and glass ghosts as well as the hand blown drinking glasses. For a $20 donation you receive a one of a kind drinking glass and complimentary beverages. The $3 hot dog dinner will still be available hot off the grill.
This will be the first Hot Glass/Cold Drinks event for Seattle artist Robert Jones. Jones has been working with Joe Thompson for close to a month after the merger of their companies. He is quite the showman and will be working along side Joe Hobbs, Joe Thompson and Sam Cornman. The objects created during their demonstrations will be auctioned off. Raffles and door prizes are also part of the fun. When the sun sets the show at The Hot Shop is especially fascinating. Make plans to visit the State of Alabama's only public access glass studio.
