Perdido Beach adopts new tax - al.com: "PERDIDO BEACH — With few options for revenue, the Town Council on Thursday night voted 5-1 to enact a 4-mill ad valorem tax.

The levy is a mill less than the maximum 5 mills that state law allows a council to enact without a referendum. The tax is expected to bring in about $64,000 annually for the town of 560, beginning next fall.

In contrast, municipal officials estimate that the coming year's expenses — $12,000 to lease and remodel a house for a town hall, phone bills of $2,300, $500 for Web site design — will amount to $63,673."
