HK shows Baldwin attractive to industry - al.com: "ROBERTSDALE — While residents and officials are waiting to see how the deal works out, a proposal to build a car manufacturing plant near Bay Minette shows that the area is a good location for major industry, Bob Higgins of the Economic Development Alliance told central Baldwin business leaders.
Hybrid Kinetic Motors announced plans in September to build a plant in north Baldwin County that would produce 1 million vehicles a year by 2018. Company officials said at the time the plant would have as many as 6,000 workers.
If the plan goes through, the deal would mean more than the jobs at the Bay Minette site, Higgins told members of the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce on Thursday. Assembly plants require thousands of parts produced by outside vendors for each vehicle, such as lights, windshield wipers and other components. In most cases, suppliers find that the most practical way to provide those parts is to make the parts as close to the assembly site as possible."
