Environmentalists oppose plan to dam several creeks in north Baldwin County - al.com: "A group of investors has applied for a permit to dam several large creeks and destroy 121 acres of wetlands in order to create four private fishing lakes on 5,000 acres near Stockton.
A similar 2003 permit application on the same property was withdrawn before the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers ruled on the proposal.
B.T. Roberts, the real estate agent who represents the investor group, Stockton at I-65 LLC, said the new proposal would create fewer lakes than the earlier effort and doesn't call for that plan's houses or golf courses. Arkansas-based Cooper Land Development had proposed 7,000 single-family homes and 2,000 townhouse-style residences surrounding several lakes and three 18-hole championship golf courses on the tract."
