5 golf courses where you should tee off | HoumaToday.com | The Courier | Houma, LA: "What do Boomers do after retirement, a majority hit the links at a local golf course to play a round of 18 holes. Besides the local courses where us Boomers can usually be found, there are many courses just a drive away that offer a different setting.
Located in Gulf Shores, Ala., Cypress Bend is part of the Craft Farms Resort. The 18-hole Arnold Palmer-designed course resides next to its sister course, Cotton Creek. The course layout is a delight to play as it winds its way through the rolling hills and numerous lakes. During the construction of Cypress Bend, attention was giving to even the smallest detail — from the staggered tee boxes to a host of sprawling bunkers and glistening lakes. “Friendly staff, great, great course conditions,” a review on www.golflink.com says. “Bunkers rebuilt, great shape over all. Good job by staff. Food good breakfast or lunch. I am repeat customer. Nice recovery after (Hurricane) Ivan — can’t tell there was ever a storm. Like town and new shopping center. Close to wharf.” Green fees cost $82 from 6 to 11 a.m., $72 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and $59 from 1 p.m. to close. In the fall, golfers can play both Cypress Bend and Cotton Creek for $129 from Aug. 6 through Nov. 11. Junior golfers can play for $30 any time of the day when accompanied with a fee-paying adult. There is also a $20 plus tax nine-hole junior rate. Tee times should be made seven days in advance, and proper attire is required. For information, call 800-327-2657 or visit www.craftfarms.com."
