38th annual National Shrimp Festival | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal: "It started 38 years ago with some Gulf Shores locals, beach folks if you will, who wanted to eat some boiled shrimp, listen to live music and display a bit of local art in the middle of the intersection of Highways 182 and 59, and on the beach. Since that first one in 1971 the National Shrimp Festival has grown into one of the Southeast's premier outdoor culinary, music and art festivals, drawing nearly 300,000 people from throuhgout the nation."
