Public Safety Director Bob West says extra lifeguards were called in to help patrol the crowded beaches.

West says yesterday alone... Nine people had to be rescued from rough surf and 28 needed assistance.

Yellow flags are flying on the beaches and that means be cautious when swimming in the water.

Safety officials recommend you always swim where lifeguards are present."
