Gulf Shores backs off personal watercraft ban to see if new safety rules assuage concerns - al.com: "GULF SHORES, Ala. -- The companies that rent personal watercraft to tourists should know by the end of the month the new guidelines they'll have to follow in 2010 to avert a ban on the business, Mayor Robert Craft said.

A public hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 19 so that municipal officials can hash out a slate of safety rules and operational procedures with the five companies that are licensed in Gulf Shores to rent personal watercraft along the beach.

'We're allowing Jet Ski rentals,' Craft said, 'just forcing them to be safe.'"
