Rare sea turtle saved from cold on Dauphin Island (with video) | Breaking News from the Press-Register - al.com: "DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. -- With 37-degree water pouring into the bay from the Mobile River during January's big chill, a small, critically endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtle washed ashore on Dauphin Island.

The turtle had been 'cold-stunned,' according to scientists. It was alive but unable to move because of a form of cold-induced hibernation. The next step is death.

Thousands of turtles washed ashore in north Florida during the cold snap, similarly stunned by water temperatures below 50 degrees. Most were more-common green sea turtles. But in Alabama, there were just two, both of them Kemp's Ridley turtles."
