Foley cracking down on signs | Breaking News from the Press-Register - al.com: "FOLEY, Ala. -- Some efforts to promote businesses in a slow economy are exceeding guidelines relaxed a year ago, according to officials who say they will be cracking down on potential threats to public safety.
Banners and signs are being placed on road rights of way, in some cases blocking drivers' views of highways, said City Councilman Charles Ebert III.
The council voted in January 2009 to relax city sign ordinances to help businesses during slow economic times. The enforcement moratorium allows temporary signs and banners to be placed in front of businesses until the restrictions are restored. Those signs, however, must still stay on the merchants' property, Ebert said."
