Storms pop up all over - al.com: "As Gulf Coast residents mark the 40th anniversary of one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit the region, they are saying goodbye to a system that sprang up in the Gulf of Mexico while turning attention to a pair of tropical systems farther east.
Tropical Storm Claudette, a surprise system that developed early Sunday in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, boasted winds near 50 mph at 10 p.m. Sunday and was expected to move ashore after midnight over the Florida Panhandle and continue northwestward.
Tropical storms warnings were issued for Escambia and Conecuh counties in southwest Alabama as well as counties central and south-central Alabama on Sunday."
