City could break even this year - al.com

City could break even this year - al.com: "ORANGE BEACH — With seven months accounted for, including almost all of the lucrative summer season, the city is on pace to break even in 2009, municipal officials said last week.

That should allow the city to leave its $2 million reserve fund intact, said Financial Director Clara Myers.

That news, Myers said, comes despite sales taxes being on pace to fall a few hundred thousand dollars below the projected $6.7 million — a number already representing a $2 million decline from 2008. Lodgings taxes will also be a few hundred thousand dollars less than predicted in the budget, she said."
