Baldwin school officials plan 'emergency summit' on budget shortfall - al.com: "Spending cuts, including 205 layoffs last week, are not enough to balance the Baldwin County education budget, so school officials have scheduled a meeting Thursday afternoon with state and federal representatives to ask for help.

The school board is looking for $4.5 million in either cuts or new funding. Board members plan to confer with state Revenue Commissioner Tim Russell and U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, in an 'emergency school finance summit' at Daphne High.

County commissioners and Baldwin lawmakers have also been invited, as have Randy McKinney, state school board representative, and Joe Morton, director of the Alabama Department of Education, according to school system reports."
