About 40 volunteers paddled the waters from Ala. 104 to the old Marlow Ferry landing Saturday, taking part in a shoreline assessment of the river for the Alabama Coastal Foundation.

Participants took notes on water conditions, sedimentation and other factors along the 8-mile stretch. The waterway study was conducted by the Alabama Coastal Foundation, said Bethany Kraft, executive director of the group."
