Fairhope mayor vetoes 2-cent sales tax - al.com: "Three days after Fairhope's City Council approved the first local sales tax in the city's century-long history, Mayor Tim Kant on Thursday vetoed the 2-cent levy.
Kant had promised in recent weeks that he would veto the measure if it passed.
In a prepared statement, Kant said he agreed with the two council members who had voted against the measure, Mike Ford and Council President Debbie Quinn. Those two had argued, according to Kant, that 'the city must cut expenses more aggressively.'"
