Plans for firehouse near airport scuttled - al.com: "GULF SHORES — Mayor Robert Craft said Monday that the city is scrapping plans to build an estimated $4.5 million fire station and a multimillion dollar community storm shelter near Jack Edwards Airport.
Instead, Craft said, the city is negotiating with Baldwin EMC to buy its shuttered building a few blocks north of City Hall on West First Street in hopes of turning it into a new primary fire station.
Craft said city officials are waiting to hear back from the power cooperative but are hop ing to acquire the property for around $1.5 million. EMC spokeswoman Karen Moore said that 'we've had several interested parties, one of them being Gulf Shores,' but said the Summerdale-based cooperative has yet to field any offers."
