Obama administration opposes government-backed wind coverage - al.com: "WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama's administration has come out against legislation that would give flood insurance policyholders the option of buying government-backed coverage for wind damage.
In a recent letter, U.S. Homeland Security chief Janet Napolitano said the administration 'strongly opposes' the multi-perils bill that Mississippi Rep. Gene Taylor, D-Bay St. Louis, folded into a broader measure that failed to pass in the last Congress. Among seven objections, Napolitano cited the potential cost and said that it would 'adversely affect' competition among various public and private wind insurance programs.
In a statement, Taylor, who has introduced similar legislation this year, accused Napolitano of recycling the Bush administration's stance."
