GULF SHORES - al.com: "GULF SHORES — Though the annual Fourth of July fireworks show had been nixed from the city's 2009 spending plan, the City Council on Monday voted unanimously to award contracts to two companies to put on the event.

Last month the council delayed a vote to fund the $45,000 event, which draws thousands to the city's public beaches each summer.

At the time council members said they wanted to wait a few weeks in hopes that the latest tax return data would show an uptick in revenue, and thus a way to pay for the display."
