Repeat flood claims keep rising /By Sean Reilly - al.com: "WASHINGTON — Federal flood insurance managers are losing the battle to reduce the number of structures that repeatedly take on water and drive up claims, with Alabama and Mississippi among the leading culprits, a new report suggests.
From 1999 to 2007, the number of so-called 'repetitive loss' properties soared by almost two-thirds to 70,226, according to the overview by the inspector general's office of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The inspector general is a kind of internal watchdog; Homeland Security encompasses the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which runs the flood insurance program."
