"The surf really isn't all that big. It's just the rip currents that are pulling," said Bob West, Pensacola Beach public safety director.

Red flags were flying at the beach, but many beachgoers ventured into the water anyway as temperatures climbed into the 80s. Despite the number of rescues, no one was seriously injured at Pensacola Beach, West said."
