Flame-retardant chemicals found in oysters in coastal waters, including Mobile Bay - al.com: "Scientists were surprised to discover that oysters and mussels in most of the nation's coastal waters, including Mobile Bay, are contaminated with flame-retardant chemicals.

Nationwide testing of shellfish by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showed that oysters in Mobile Bay have lower levels of the chemicals in their flesh than oysters from the coasts of nearby states, such as Louisiana and Florida."
