Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 6:00 p.m., the Orange Beach Public Library will welcome the Education Coordinator for the Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum, Fonda Thomas. Mrs. Thomas will introduce the technology behind lighthouses, share some of the historical highlights of Pensacola Lighthouse and discuss current preservation efforts. Situated on Pensacola Bay, the current tower has aided coastal navigation since 1859. Through a lease with the US Coast Guard, the Pensacola Lighthouse Association is solely responsible for the maintenance and public tour operations of the Pensacola Light. Mrs. Thomas is a retired school teacher, and a long-term supporter of the Pensacola Lighthouse.
