State conservation department opposes park discounts for Alabama residents | al.com: "The idea by the state Senate Democratic Caucus seemed simple enough: Give Alabama residents half off on admission fees and lodging costs at Alabama state parks to boost attendance and spur spending in a slow economy.

The state Conservation Department, which oversees the state parks, wasn't on board with the legislators' proposal.

'I've had no discussion with anyone over there,' state Conservation Commissioner Barnett Lawley said in an interview with The Associated Press."
