Gulf Shores purchases tract along local beach | al.com: "GULF SHORES, Ala. -- City officials plan to expand taxpayers' holdings at the state's busiest public beach, agreeing to buy a long-vacant tract near the terminus of Ala. 59 for $3.25 million.

The parcel, which measures 350 feet wide and 240 feet deep, sits just across Ala. 182 from Gulf Shores' main public beach. It had been home to a small amusement park since at least the early 1980s but has sat vacant since 2004's Hurricane Ivan."
