Gulf-wide charter-fishing survey gearing up | al.com

Gulf-wide charter-fishing survey gearing up | al.com: "HOUMA, La. -- More than 2,000 licensed Gulf of Mexico charter boat captains from Texas to Florida will be asked how they see the health of the recreational fishing industry.

Louisiana Sea Grant, LSU's Center for Natural Resource Economics and Policy and the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries have a $650,000, three-year federal grant for the project.

It will include a survey of charter fishing in the northern Gulf of Mexico and a review of recently implemented red-snapper rules.

Surveys will be mailed in April. Participating fishermen will get paid, but officials haven't yet determined how much."
