Perdido Key Open spikes interest in beach vollyball | pnj.com | Pensacola News Journal: "Take your beach volleyball 'A' game to the snow-white sands behind the Flora-Bama Lounge & Package this weekend, as the beach will be transformed into more than a dozen volleyball courts.

The American roadhouse will be the site of the 2009 Perdido Key Open Beach Volleyball Tournament on Saturday and Sunday. Twenty-seven men's and women's volleyball teams from around the Southeast will descend upon Perdido Key for the two-day tournament.

Once the idea was pitched by Flora-Bama owner Joe Gilchrist, the Perdido Key Chamber of Commerce knew who to call to help organize the tournament: Enter Phil "Coach" Bryant, an Orange Beach, Ala., resident with decades of volleyball behind him."
