WEAR ABC 3 :: Top Stories: "The Florida Department of Children and Families says Byrd Billings tried to squeeze the state out of millions of dollars several years ago.

The local DCF attorney says Billings began copyrighting family names.

When DCF would use those names in letters to the family, Byrd Billings would reply by demanding millions of dollars in copyright infringement.

After several attempts, a DCF lawyer sent Billings a letter warning him the state could take legal action if he continued making the demands.

The local DCF attorney says that's when Billings' 'copyright infringement' demands ended."
