State regulators discuss coastal insurance problems during Robertsdale forum - al.com: "ROBERTSDALE — From 2003 to 2007, insurers in Alabama paid out $119 for every $100 in premiums they collected, state Insurance Department officials said Monday night during a public forum.

That goes a long way, state regulators said, toward explaining why more than 28,000 property owners in Mobile and Baldwin counties have lost their hurricane insurance since 2004, and why many more have seen their annual premiums soar.

The forum, which was hosted by the Insurance Department and coastal Alabama's state legislative delegation, was attended by about 80 people. The meeting, which was held at the Robertsdale Coliseum, was largely a vehicle for regulators to explain the workings of the insurance business, and their office, to residents."
