Smoking Ban Would End Retirement Plan - The Galveston County Daily News

The Galveston County Daily News: "In regard to the article “Council to consider smoking ban” (June 27): In 2007, my wife and I abandoned our plans to retire in Gulf Shores, Ala., because we feared a repetition of the creeping “nanny statism” that we have experienced throughout many years in our northern city.

In 2008, we purchased a condominium in Galveston, confident that Texas was safe from busybody activism.

Given that Galveston City Council is about to consider banning smoking on private property, we are fearful we have stumbled into the same problem.

I wrote a letter to the real-estate office canceling our plan to relocate to Alabama.

I fear we will now be forced to do the same thing once more.
