Scientists: Fish are grown bigger in Bama - al.com

Scientists: Fish are grown bigger in Bama - al.com: "Texas has its extra-large reputation, but to catch the biggest fish in the Gulf, you have to wet your line in Alabama.

Using Press-Register reports on the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo from 1928 to the present, scientists have determined that fish along Alabama's Gulf Coast tend to be considerably larger than the same species caught in Texas waters.

University of South Alabama scientists compared stories about the rodeo with records from the Texas Deep Sea Roundup in Port Aransas and the Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo in Pascagoula. Those rodeos — which began 76 and 61 years ago respectively — have been around nearly as long as the Alabama event."
