Officials to consider oyster reef plan for western shore of Mobile Bay - al.com: "Alabama conservation officials are considering a plan to create an 800-acre oyster reef along the western shore of Mobile Bay in an effort to revive the state's shellfish population.

A public hearing will be held this evening in Bayou La Batre on the proposal to build the reef along three miles of hard bottom between East Fowl River and Alabama Port.

'We're trying to help restore the reefs and help the fishermen, too,' said Vernon Minton, director of the Marine Resources Division, part of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources."
