Gulf Shores will recoup $3.9M for sand-clearing efforts - al.com: "GULF SHORES — Municipal officials learned this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency will pay the city $3.9 million of a disputed $4.6 million claim for Hurricane Katrina cleanup work.
For about two years, Gulf Shores and FEMA have been at odds over the claim, which was related to the city's efforts to recoup the millions of dollars it spent returning storm-blown sand to the shoreline.
'We appreciate FEMA's listening to our case and considering all the issues,' Mayor Robert Craft said in a news release. 'This is an important decision for the city of Gulf Shores.'"
