Landlords supporting Bruno's - al.com: "The landlords of seven Bruno's and two Food World stores in Mobile and Baldwin counties have told a bankruptcy court that they support the supermarket chain's efforts to void parts of its union contracts as it tries to sell itself.
Bruno's and the United Food and Commercial Workers International are scheduled to appear before U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Benjamin Cohen on Thursday on Bruno's request to remove 'successorship' language that forces potential buyers of the 66-store chain's stores to maintain union contracts for about 2,000 of its 3,000 employees.
It is 'unfortunate that these third parties, who don't have a big role in this except the rent they get from Bruno's, have not been willing to be a party to conversations' with the union, Corey Owens, a union spokesman based in Washington, D.C., said Monday."
