Firefighters win $1M grant for radios - al.com: "Orange Beach firefighters learned recently that they'll be the recipients of $1 million in federal money to buy radios that will enable them to better communicate from within the glass and concrete condo towers that line the city's waterfront.

The grant was announced late last week by Sen. Richard Shelby, the Tuscaloosa Republican who is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee.

The money was awarded through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Program, which is distributing $500 million to fire departments nationwide this year, according to Shelby's office."
