Elberta contractor who fled gun charges, lawsuits resurfaces in Belize | Breaking News from the Press-Register - al.com: "Facing a federal firearms charge and dogged by debts and civil lawsuits, Elberta contractor William R. Jewett Jr. disappeared last summer.

When he resurfaced this month, he had a yacht full of cash in various currencies and new trouble -- money laundering charges in the Central American nation of Belize.

Jewett, 36, pleaded guilty in Belize last week to a single count of money laundering. A judge there fined him 50,000 Belize dollars -- an amount less than $26,000 -- and ordered him to serve five years in prison if he cannot come up with the cash."
