Derek Snow, fishing aboard "Restitution III," sustained a deep gash in his leg when a tuna he and his crew reeled in suddenly jerked free. The metal hook in the fish's mouth flung in the air, then embedded in Snow's leg.
It caused the crew to head back to shore, get their catch weighed and have Snow's leg treated.
Restitution III brought in the top fish of the day. Landon Joyner caught a 173-pound yellowfin tuna while Steve Bozeman caught a 146-pound yellowfin tuna."

Rum Runners Opening Wednesday at The Wharf
June 29, 2009 - Orange Beach, AL (OBA) - Rum Runners USA announced it’s newest location at The Wharf in Orange Beach, Alabama will open the first week in July.
As part of the grand opening week Rum Runners will be giving away 2 Free Front Row tickets to the Montgomery Gentry Concert. The tickets will be given away on Friday night (7/3/09) for the live concert at the Amphitheater at The Wharf on Saturday night (7/4/09). The drawing will be done by the World Famous Dueling Piano Players around 11pm.

G.S. mayor wants long-range goals that won’t rely on tourism dollars - Baldwin County NOW - A Gulf Coast Information Source for South Alabama: "GULF SHORES, Ala. — Committee reports at Gulf Shores City Council meetings could get lengthier and more involved as time goes on.
Mayor Robert Craft wants to see goals set that will involve the different departments and committees of the city, that can be set up to help move the city forward.
'Presently, I am not aware of a collective plan for how we can move the city forward, particularly given the change in the economic conditions that affect our world,' Craft said. 'So I have been talking to our finance committee to figure out a way to make sure that we have a strategy in place that will protect all the small businesses that are hanging on by their fingernails.'"

Orange Beach Fire Department’s 43rd. BBQ a Success

The Orange Beach Fire Department’s 43rd annual BBQ on June 13th was a success. It was the first time in a few years that all 4,000 pounds of pork butts were sold out. It was also the earliest it was sold out. Orange Beach Fire Department would like to express sincere thanks to the many people that helped make it a success.

Join the Orange Beach Public Library Thursday, July 9, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. as we learn a few simple bookbinding techniques that just may get you started making your own holiday gifts or even a journal for yourself. The library will provide all of the supplies you need and give you plenty of ideas for furthering your skills with materials you can recycle at home. This free event is part of our Adult Summer Reading Program and is open to the public. Registration is requested and may be completed online at www.orangebeachlibrary.org or by phone.
