Red Snapper Season Shrinks - Dauphin Island Alabama

Red Snapper Season Shrinks - Dauphin Island Alabama: "If you thought the red snapper season was bad last year, the number of days are decreasing once again.

The red snapper season is scheduled to start June 1st and end late July. Making this season last just over 50 days. That's only a third of the 2007 season, which lasted more than 150 days, with double the number of fish caught.

Bob Shipp, Chairman of the Gulf of Mexico Fisheries Management Council says the fish are getting bigger, so the amount of pounds that anglers catch will be met faster.
'What the council wants is for the fisheries service to go back and base the quota on the number of fish, not the pounds.'"
