Update: Alabama coast preparing booms; few reports of tourists canceling | al.com: "ORANGE BEACH, Ala. -- Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon said that BP crews were setting up on local beaches, preparing to deploy thousands of feet of oil-absorbent booms because of the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

'We also have our own environmental emergency contractors on alert,' Kennon said. 'Our crews are prepared to close off Perdido Pass. We do not have the boom capacity to protect all the shoreline.'

Kennon said he agreed with Commissioner Barnett Lawley, head of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, who said early today that current plans call for allowing oil to wash up on the state's Gulf beaches."
