The Orange Beach Arts Center is pleased to announce that they will be presenting clay artist and sculptor, Nada Boner, as their first featured artist for their Alabama Craft Artist Series. Ms. Boner will be teaching a ceramic sculpting workshop in Saturday, May 15th, 2010.
The Alabama Craft Artist Series will be highlighting artists from the state of Alabama who are well respected in their field for the eye to detail and craftsmanship while using their respective traditional craft medium as their creative voice. These artists will be coming to the Orange Beach Arts Center to help fulfill the educational mission of the Arts Center as they lead week-end workshops. The Alabama Craft Artist Series will feature an Alabama artist each month conducting a workshop for both local residents and visitors to the Gulf Coast.
Nada Boner is a ceramic sculptor based out of Birmingham, Alabama. Ms. Boner’s work is as diversified as her life. Having always loved the outdoors and people, her passion and focus is in organic ceramic sculpture, influenced by nature, reflecting the world around us. She aspires to capture a mere glimpse of God’s beauty in the form of human, floral, and animal depictions.
Nada’s creations emphases the use of the extremes of nature, fire, air, and water, which is reflected in her work. Reduction glazing on clay is a delight to behold, unique and impossible to duplicate. Her unglazed stoneware sculptures show a crude vitality that captures one’s eye.
In this one day workshop with Nada Boner students will have the opportunity to express their creative ideas and voices through the process of hand sculpting and hand-build colored clay. The workshop will be held on Saturday, May 15th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. No prior experience is required to participate. The cost of the workshop is $120, which includes all supplies and firing of the clay. Please contact the Orange Beach Arts Center at 251-981-2787 to sign-up.
