Shelby Announces Nearly $1.2 Million for Alabama Emergency Food and Shelter Program

United States Senator Richard Shelby : Press Room: "U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.) today announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency will award $1,191,635 to the state of Alabama to bring relief to communities affected by the country’s current economic situation. The funding is provided through the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP).

“For more than 26 years, the EFSP has helped meet the basic needs of impoverished individuals across our nation,” said Shelby. “In light of our current economic situation, more families are struggling to make ends meet. I am hopeful that this EFSP funding will create conditions where people can help themselves while our economy recovers.”

EFSP funds will be distributed to support social service agencies in Alabama. The grant funds are used to supplement food, shelter, rent, mortgage, and utility assistance programs for people with non-disaster related emergencies."
