Baldwin inventor testifies in defense of energy breakthrough - al.com: "Jack Boykin, a Montrose chemist who claims to have developed a relatively inexpensive method for turning plant matter into diesel fuel, testified in Mobile's federal court Thursday that he has raised about $17 million to build and operate a Bay Minette facility to manufacture the fuel in addition to some $2.5 million he spent earlier in the decade to build a test facility in Prichard.

There's no argument that big money has been pumped into Boykin's procedure, which, if it works, could turn the alternative-energy business on its head. Where doubt has arisen is from one of Boykin's first investors, a New York-based corporation called Parsons & Whittemore, which is one of the world's largest manufacturers of wood pulp."
