The Orange Beach Parks & Recreation Department is getting ready for its annual summer Sail Camp.
Classes are held at Waterfront Park on Canal Road, and the camp is open to junior sailors 8½ to 14.
Morning sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to noon for beginning sailors and afternoon sessions will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. for intermediate/advanced sailors. Each session will run Monday through Friday.
Sail Camp is scheduled for June 2-6, June 9-13, June 16-20, June 23-June 27, July 7-11, July 14-18, July 21-25 and July 28-Aug. 1.
Registration for Orange Beach residents began March 1, and applications for nonresidents will be accepted beginning April 1. The application fee is $100 per student per session for Orange Beach residents and $150 per student per session for nonresidents.
The fee includes hands-on sailing instruction, classroom instruction, knot tying, a daily snack and drink, camp T-shirt and an award certificate. Camp sailors are required to bring their own life jackets, towel and water bottle and should wear water shoes.
Applications for the camps are available at Orange Beach City Hall or at the Recreation Center on Canal Road. Applications can also be printed from the Parks & Recreation Web site, www.obparksandrec.com.
