Do you know where the seafood you eat is caught?

(MOBILE, Ala.) March 20 -- You may have plans to go out to eat this Easter weekend, maybe to a seafood restaurant, but do you know where that seafood was caught? A local lawmaker wants to make sure you do. As NBC 15's Andrea Ramey reports, proposed legislation would make restaurants disclose from where they get their seafood.

Three times a week, local restaurant owner David Deckle receives shipments of seafood. "This comes out of Louisiana. And this comes out of Bayou La Batre," said Deckle as he showed NBC15 News his latest shipment.

Not all of it comes from the Gulf though. "Canada. This comes out of Alaska," said Deckle.

Alabama lawmakers want to make sure restaurant owners aren't importing contaminated fish, and they want customers to know where their seafood was caught. A proposed law before the Alabama State Legislature aims to do just that.

The bill would make restaurants print a disclaimer on the menu. The disclaimer would let customers know of their right to ask restaurant workers the country of origin of all seafood products.
